Implementation of the Equator Principles
CIFI’s commitment to sustainability has evolved into a core pillar of its business model. We have established a robust ESG risk management framework that enables the systematic identification, assessment, and management of environmental and social risks and impacts across all financing activities.
Our approach integrates prevention, mitigation, and adaptive management measures to address key global challenges, including climate change, social inequality, biodiversity loss, and inclusive economic growth. Through the application of best practices and innovative solutions, we aim to promote responsible financing that minimizes environmental harm, protects natural capital, and enhances long-term development outcomes.
CIFI is firmly committed to ensuring that all financed projects adhere to high environmental and social standards. Through rigorous due diligence, monitoring, and supervision processes, we seek to identify and mitigate potential risks while maximizing positive impacts. Our due diligence framework is designed to avoid or minimize adverse impacts on people and the environment, and we do not finance projects or entities whose primary activities are included in our Exclusion List.
In 2025, CIFI completed a comprehensive update of its Environmental and Social Management System (ESMS) to strengthen its alignment with evolving international standards and industry best practices. This update introduced enhanced methodologies for risk categorization, climate change risk assessment, and the evaluation of social and human rights impacts, as well as improvements in documentation, traceability, and internal quality assurance processes. The updated ESMS also reinforces the integration of ESG considerations across the entire investment lifecycle and strengthens governance arrangements through clearer roles and responsibilities.
We continuously allocate resources to strengthen and enhance the ESMS, ensuring its effectiveness and responsiveness to emerging risks and opportunities. Clear environmental and social expectations are communicated to our staff, clients, and counterparties, reinforcing accountability across all stakeholders.
Beyond risk management, CIFI strives to act as a catalyst for sustainable development by fostering long-term value creation and positive impact through its financing activities. Our environmental and social mission focuses on adding value to projects while ensuring full alignment with CIFI’s ESG requirements, contributing to sustainable development in a rapidly evolving global context.
In line with this commitment, CIFI promotes equivalent responsibility among its clients, encouraging alignment with our ESG Policies and Position Statements and supporting the adoption of sound environmental and social practices.
Recognizing the critical role of private sector investment in advancing sustainable development, CIFI adheres to internationally recognized standards of environmental and social sustainability. We actively promote strong corporate governance and work closely with clients to support the implementation of best practices.
CIFI’s ESG objectives are primarily achieved through the implementation of its ESMS, which is aligned with the International Finance Corporation’s Performance Standards on Environmental and Social Sustainability (2012) and the Equator Principles (EP IV, 2020), as well as other relevant international standards and good practices where applicable.
The ESMS is fully integrated into the investment lifecycle, covering project screening, due diligence, approval, and post-investment monitoring. Its implementation is supported by a clear governance structure, with defined roles and responsibilities across key internal teams, including Business Development and Structuring, ESG, Portfolio Management, and Senior Management, with support from the Legal team as required.
