Implementation of the Equator Principles

Structured Finance Project Evaluation

For the evaluation of projects under project finance structures, we have environmental specialists responsible for applying the ESRMS Manual methodology. Their functions include classifying the project’s ESG risk level; analyzing technical information and supporting documentation provided by the client; verifying compliance with regulatory requirements and international standards; assessing additional relevant information to ensure a comprehensive understanding of the project; and issuing a technical assessment and defining action plans to prevent, mitigate, or compensate for potential impacts.
Post-approval monitoring is carried out by the Sustainability and Environmental and Social Risk teams, with monthly review by the Sustainable Finance Committee and semi-annual review by the Sustainability Committee that supports the Board of Directors.
In the case of infrastructure projects assessed as structured finance—such as road concessions or power generation plants across different technologies—we engage an independent external advisor specialized in environmental and social monitoring. This advisor conducts oversight during the construction phase (with quarterly or bi-monthly reporting) and during the operation and maintenance phase (with annual reporting), verifying compliance with the Equator Principles and the IFC Performance Standards.
For these types of projects, internal assessment verifies criteria such as environmental certifications, proximity to protected areas, existence of environmental liabilities, critical inputs (water and energy), waste management, potential impacts, and the validity of licenses, permits, and control measures.
